The disturbing true story behind ‘The Predator of Seville’
If you’re someone who takes an interest in Netflix’s true crime catalogue, you’re in for a shocking revisit this week with The Predator of Seville.
Scheduled for release on March 27th, The Predator of Seville is an upcoming Netflix Original docu-series directed by Alejandro Olvera, packed with testimonies of several victims who fell prey to Manuel Blanco AKA “Manu White,” a seemingly friendly guide who organised low-cost trips for students across Spain.
Produced by Atresmedia in collaboration with Ana Pastor-Newtral, The Predator of Seville capitalises on never-before-seen materials, exploring how a travel network designed for international students became the hub of assaults that went unnoticed for years.
The true-crime documentary, coming up next on Netflix, primarily follows the account of Gabrielle Vega, who was only 19 when she travelled to Spain from the US, hoping to improve her Spanish before starting university. While everything was going well according to the plan, her life turned upside down after booking a trip with Discover Excursions, a company specialising in arranging low-cost trips for international students.
During the weekend getaway, the guide, Manu White, assigned to accompany her, invited her for drinks. But what followed upended her life as she later became one of his assault victims. Although Vega kept things to herself for several years, she finally decided to open up about the events on a well-known television programme.
Following her revelation, dozens of American women, who have no connection to each other, reached out, sharing similar accounts of abuse at the hands of the same perpetrator, Manu White, who presented himself as the “Prince of Seville.”
The chilling cases and the connection ultimately came to light when several young women began to connect the dots of their experiences of abuse, leading to the unravelling of the culprit’s guard. The Predator of Seville breaks down Manu’s trail of crimes, gathering testimonies and analysing the investigation spanning years.
Simultaneously, the Netflix docu-series focuses on the victims’ collective efforts to hold the predator accountable, making it a must-watch entry this week.
So, mark your calendars before you forget, as Netflix revisits a story that deserves to be heard in The Predator of Seville.
