‘The Crown’ creator brings Ira Levin’s acclaimed thriller to Netflix
Nobody comes close to Netflix when it comes to classic adaptations. And even though the sun is about to set in 2025, the platform keeps the momentum intact, with The Crown creator, Peter Morgan, stepping in to bring Ira Levin’s timeless thriller, The Boys from Brazil.
The upcoming show will be conceived as a five-part limited series, with Morgan and London-based production companies, World Productions and Orchid Pictures, producing it for Netflix.
“Building on his extraordinary work with The Crown, Peter [Morgan] continues to examine the political and emotional forces which, through the 20th century, have moulded the world we live in today. That he does so via the intimate human stories within the sweep of history makes his storytelling powerfully relatable,” Suzanne Mackie, executive producer for Orchid Pictures, said Tudum.
Alex Gabassi, best known for his works with Netflix in Black Doves and The Crown, will direct The Boys from Brazil. He also serves as an executive producer alongside Mackie and Simon Heath for World Productions. In addition to these, Oona O’Beirn and Andy Stebbing are producing the series. As for the rest? Here’s everything to know.
What is it about?
The Boys from Brazil unfolds over three decades, from the immediate repercussions of World War II through the political upheaval of the 1970s. It tells the story of a Holocaust survivor and Nazi Nimrod Yakov Liebermann, whose sole mission in life is to bring Nazi fugitives to justice. To achieve his goal, the sacrifice is all-consuming, but he’s not someone to step back.
After one of his disciples working undercover in Brazil informs him of an alarming Nazi scheme, Liebermann has to race against the clock to reveal a shocking truth: Doctor Friedrick Mainhardt, a barbarous Nazi scientist assumed dead, is actually alive. And he’s mobilising a diabolical scheme to initiate the rise of a Fourth Reich.
