The Christmas rom-com climbing the Netflix charts: ‘My Secret Santa’
Netflix unleashed a truckload of rom-coms just in time for Christmas, but the one that grabs the eyes the most on its global top ten weekly charts is undoubtedly My Secret Santa.
In the week dated December 8th to December 14th, the holiday romantic-comedy from Mike Rohl is ranked second, succeeding Rian Johnson’s latest mystery thriller, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, on the most popular movies chart worldwide.
While My Secret Santa debuted at the top of the charts in the first week of its Netflix release, the film still holds its ground with 16.2million views amassed in its second week. Although its rise through the ranks is definitely no surprise, given the festive fervour surrounding Christmas rom-coms, if you’re still missing out on it, it’s undoubtedly your loss.
Starring Alexandra Breckenridge and Ryan Eggold, My Secret Santa tells the story of a desperate single mother, Taylor, who would do just about anything to fund her daughter’s enrolment at an elite snowboarding school camp at Sun Peaks ski resort. And so, she does, enlisting the assistance of her super helpful friends to help her design prosthetics so that she can disguise herself as a rosy-faced old man.
Taylor is a woman with a plan who intends to land a seasonal job as the resort’s Santa Claus, which could actually help her out with the funds she needs. But even though she gets the job, not everything goes according to her meticulous plan. Wonder why?
Well, it all starts with a charming man, Matthew, whom she meets accidentally at the resort. As it turns out, he’s no ordinary man, but the manager of Sun Peaks, where she just landed a gig as the ski resort’s Santa. While Taylor initially rebuffs him, the sparks brewing between the two can be felt from miles away. The question, however, is: will the Santa deception bring a season of heartbreaks?
Set in the fictional Sun Peaks ski resort, My Secret Santa also stars Tia Mowry and Madison MacIsaac in addition to the lead actors. For those unaware, Carley Smale and Ron Oliver co-wrote the screenplay for Netflix.
In case you’re craving a light-hearted holiday title, My Secret Santa is probably all you need on your watchlist. But if that leaves you craving for more, there’s always a barrage of rom-coms on Netflix this season to fall back on.
Considering this is just the second week of My Secret Santa’s release, the rom-com still has a long way to go. However, it’s best to hop on to it while the holiday cheers last. So, happy streaming!
