The 'Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget' Easter egg you might have missed

In the closing moments of Aardman Animation’s long-awaited sequel, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, there is a surprising Easter egg you may have missed. The film is currently in the second spot on Netflix’s global top ten films list and has quite a few fans in an uproar.

The elusive Feathers McGraw is the nefarious penguin from the iconic Wallace & Gromit short film The Wrong Trousers. While the film itself may have received a lukewarm response, the inclusion of McGraw has sparked excitement and theories among Aardman universe enthusiasts.

For those unfamiliar with Feathers, he made his debut in The Wrong Trousers in 1993, orchestrating an elaborate diamond heist from his lodgings in Wallace and Gromit’s home. Notorious for disguising himself as a chicken, Feathers is a wanted criminal whose criminal escapades left a lasting impression on Aardman fans

After his last appearance in the custody of West Wallaby Zoo, many thought they had seen the last of this penguin. It has been 30 years! But clearly, McGraw is still terrorising neighbourhoods.

However, in the final shot of Dawn of the Nugget, Feathers McGraw makes a stealthy cameo, peeking his head over a ridge as the animated chickens celebrate their victory.

The unexpected appearance has also sparked discussions about the Aardman shared universe. Some fans are speculating if this cameo confirms a connection between Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, and Chicken Run. A previous Easter egg in the Shaun the Sheep movie, featuring a photo of Feathers on a capture board, has fueled this speculation. But, of course, this could all just be a jolly ol’ inside joke.

Regardless of the theories, Feathers McGraw’s surprise appearance in Dawn of the Nugget is a fun little surprise for fans.
