The best Jamie Foxx movies to watch on Netflix

When it comes to versatility and talent, few actors can match the prowess of Jamie Foxx. From his early days as a stand-up comedian to becoming an Academy Award-winning performer, Foxx has consistently impressed with his charisma and that cool factor that is elusive to many.

Whether he’s portraying real-life legends or fictional characters, Foxx uniquely embodies each role and makes it his own.

The 55-year-old recently had a health scare that had people worried. But thankfully, he is doing better days ahead of the release of They Cloned Tyrone.

Apart from the Juel Taylor sci-fi comedy, some of Jamie Foxx’s finest cinematic outings are available on Netflix. Here are a few of them you can add to your watchlist for a weekend marathon.

The best Jamie Foxx movies to watch on Netflix:

Baby Driver (2017)

In Edgar Wright’s high-octane heist film, Foxx plays the role of Leon “Bats” Jefferson III, a sadistic and ruthless henchman. Just Mercy (2019)

In this powerful legal drama, Foxx portrays Walter McMillian, a wrongfully convicted man on death row. Based on a true story, Just Mercy follows the efforts of young attorney Bryan Stevenson, played by Michael B. Jordan, as he fights to prove McMillian’s innocence and expose the flaws in the justice system. Foxx’s poignant portrayal resonates long after the credits roll.

Project Power (2020)

Directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, Project Power is a slick and fun action thriller featuring Foxx, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Dominique Fishback. The film revolves around a super pill, akin to compound V in The Boys, that grants temporary superpowers, prompting Foxx’s character, a former soldier, and Gordon-Levitt’s cop to team up and find the source. Despite an inconsistent screenplay, the electrifying performances make this one worth a watch.

Day Shift (2022)

In this action-comedy, Foxx plays the role of Bud Jablonski, a seemingly ordinary pool cleaner in the San Fernando Valley. However, unbeknownst to his family, Bud moonlights as a vampire hunter who is also part of a vampire-hunting union. Directed by J.J. Perry, Day Shift is bizarre and nonsensical in parts but fun nonetheless. Alongside Foxx, the film features an ensemble cast, including Snoop Dogg, Dave Franco, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, and Karla Souza.

They Cloned Tyrone (2023)

They Cloned Tyrone is a genre-busting homage to the Blaxploitation films of the 1970s, combining elements of satire, horror, and absurdist humour. Directed by Juel Taylor in his feature film directorial debut, the 2023 American science fiction comedy mystery stars a dynamic trio—John Boyega, Teyonah Parris, and Foxx (who also serves as producer). Together, they embark on an unexpected journey, unravelling a government cloning conspiracy.

They Cloned Tyrone starts streaming on Netflix on July 21st, 2023.
