The Antonio Banderas action flick storming Netflix charts

Every week we see a new and somewhat random movie make it into the Netflix “most popular” charts. Perhaps because of the all-seeing algorithm or simply because Netflix users like to find something a little bit strange, but more often than not, those movies are forgotten flicks from the not-so-distant past. This week we have an entry from Antonio Banderas.

Security, starring the handsome Banderas, is the action-packed thriller that has recently entered Netflix’s “most popular” chart for this week. If you’re contemplating what to watch next, then this movie is certainly better than another entry in Madame Web.

Banderas delivers a standout, if somewhat clunky, performance, making it one of the more appealing titles on the platform. Known for his charismatic screen presence and versatile acting skills, Banderas does not disappoint in Security.

He plays the role of Eddie, a former Marine turned shopping mall security guard, who must protect a young girl from a dangerous gang. A notably intense portrayal, bringing a blend of toughness and vulnerability that makes his character relatable and engaging. Banderas’ ability to carry action scenes while injecting emotional depth into his role is a testament to his often-forgotten talent.

Security keeps viewers on the edge of their seats from start to finish. The narrative centres around a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, with Eddie and a small team of security guards trying to outwit and outfight a ruthless group of criminals. The tension is palpable, and the stakes are high, making for a thrilling viewing experience.

Unlike some of the unwelcome action entries on the lists, the movie’s action sequences are well-executed. Fans of the genre will appreciate the choreography and intensity of the fight scenes. These sequences are not just about brute force but also strategic thinking, showcasing Eddie’s military training and tactical skills. There is an undeniably enticing gritty realism at play.

It’s not all “wham, bam, thank you ma’am” as the film also explores themes of bravery, redemption, and the power of human resilience. Eddie’s journey from a man struggling with his past to a hero who rises to the occasion adds a layer of emotional depth.

In truth, there is likely one overriding factor for pressing play on Security: its position in the charts says that it may well be worth doing so. While it’s often preferable to steer away from the herd, with millions of hours viewed on the movie and an algorithm continuously pushing it toward our attention with little to gain, Security, by logic, is certainly worth your time.
