The 2024 Oscar-nominated films you can stream on Netflix

With the 96th Academy Awards right around the corner, on Sunday, March 10th, you might be wondering where you can actually watch some of the nominated films and performances. Netflix has got you covered because at least 14 of these critically acclaimed and Oscar-nominated titles are available for streaming on the platform right now.

Netflix, with its impressive roster of films, has garnered a whopping 18 nominations across ten titles. While unlikely to beat the fierce competition from other nominees like Oppenheimer, Poor Things, or Killers of the Flower Moon, one of the standout contenders from the house of Netflix this year is Maestro, directed by and starring Bradley Cooper.

Nominated for seven Oscars, including ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Actress’, this love story delves into the life of legendary composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein, offering a glimpse into his enduring marriage with actor Felicia Montealegre.

Apart from Maestro, there are two other biopics that have grabbed nominations: NYAD and Rustin. Directed by the Oscar-winning duo Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, this film follows the journey of swimmer Diana Nyad as she set on a historic quest to conquer the treacherous waters from Cuba to Florida.

Meanwhile, Todd Haynes’ May December offers a darkly melodramatic take on a sensational tabloid story, exploring themes of abuse, power dynamics, and grooming. Nominated for Best Original Screenplay, this drama follows an actor, Elizabeth Berry, as she immerses herself in the lives of a controversial couple, portrayed brilliantly by Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore, and Charles Melton.

One of the most talked about films of the year, Celine Song’s Past Lives, starring Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, and John Magaro, is also streaming on Netflix. Animated films like Nimona, which is a Netflix Original, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, are there on the platform as well if the heart wants to cater to the inner child.

Additionally, Netflix boasts an impressive lineup of short films, including the emotionally resonant The After and the visually stunning The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín’s El Conde is nominated for ‘Best Cinematography’, and J. A. Bayona’s Society of the Snow is nominated for multiple awards, including ‘Best International Feature Film’.

As the countdown to the Oscars begins, Netflix provides the perfect opportunity to catch up on the year’s most celebrated films. Whether you’re in the mood for gripping dramas, heartwarming animations, or thought-provoking documentaries, there’s no shortage of cinematic treasures waiting to be discovered. So grab your popcorn, dim the lights, and set forth on a cinematic journey, all from the comfort of your living room.
