The 10 most watched series on Netflix this week: November 2024
As the nights grow shorter, more people are staying home to binge some of the new series that have landed on Netflix. A fresh number of documentaries and dramas have made their way to the platform’s top ten most-viewed series, and there seems to be a dark theme that encapsulates all of them.
It appears that serial killers are the public’s number one interest in these winter months. Documentaries and fictionalised crime series dominate the top ten as people are filling up the early nights with feelings of grit and tension. Not that serial killer and crime series haven’t always done well, but people seem particularly drawn to them this month over anything else.
For instance, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story continues to rack up views as more fans tune in to learn about the backstory of the two notorious murders. The dramatised retelling of the events leading up to Lyle and Erik Menendez murdering their parents has been hooking audiences worldwide.
The series has been surrounded by controversy, which only seems to have drawn more people towards it. Erik Menendez criticised the series saying and its creator, saying, “It is with a heavy heart that I say, I believe Ryan Murphy cannot be this naïve and inaccurate about the facts of our lives so as to do this without bad intent,” he said, “It is sad for me to know that Netflix’s dishonest portrayal of the tragedies surrounding our crime have taken the painful truths several steps backward.”
Murphy replied to the statement. “I think it’s interesting that he’s issued a statement without having seen the show,” he said, “It’s really, really hard – if it’s your life – to see your life up on screen.”
Among Monsters are many other serial killer and crime series that seem to be peaking the public’s interest. This Is the Zodiac Speaking is currently the fourth most-watched series on the platform, followed by The Lincoln Lawyer and My Wife My Abuser.
The most popular series on the streaming platform currently is Tyler Perry’s new drama, Beauty in Black. Starring Crystle Stewart and Taylor Polidore Williams, the series follows a young stripper who has her life completely changed when she meets a wealthy family. The family is dysfunctional and chaotic, but something much darker is happening in their ranks as she uncovers an evil trafficking scheme.
