The 10 most popular series on Netflix this week: July 2024

It’s always a risk for a new show to debut on Netflix and end its first season on a cliffhanger, with the streaming service having cancelled more than a few originals that decided to tease a second run which never came.

However, Rapman’s confident proclamation that he wants at least three seasons of Supacell is looking a lot more accurate than arrogant at this stage, with the musician and filmmaker’s superhero series currently miles ahead of the pack as the platform’s most-watched episodic offering.

After two weeks in release, not only is Supacell the single most-watched show on Netflix globally, but it’s amassed an impressive 61.2 million viewing hours and 11.8 million views in total. For comparison’s sake, that’s almost twice as much as troubling docuseries The Man with 1000 Kids, the highest-placed debutant after notching 6.6 million views and counting.

Worst Roommate Ever lingers in third to once again underline how eager subscribers are to binge-watch harrowing stories ripped from real life, with the exclamation mark being put on the show’s popularity by the fact the first season is bringing up the rear in tenth spot.

The third run of the all-conquering Bridgerton continues to hold strong, and there’s a heavy does of reality to be found, too. Real estate lark Owning Manhattan and America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders are both sitting pretty on Netflix’s top ten, as is the return of gameshow The Mole.

Docuseries Sprint has arrived to capitalise on the increasing interest and excitement surrounding the upcoming Olympic games, following seven athletes from a number of different countries around the world on their journey to make it to the starting blocks in the most famous athletics competition in history.

None of the other nine titles can hold a candle to Supacell, though, which continues to state its case for a rapid-fire renewal. Audiences everywhere have been enthralled by the street-level superhero adventure ever since it premiered on June 27th, and it’s looking increasingly like a foregone conclusion that it’s a matter of when and not if Netflix officially pulls the trigger on season 2.
