The 10 most popular series on Netflix this week: December 2022

Another week has passed, and the sense that Jenna Ortega and Tim burton may have created the most-watched series in Netflix history is slowly becoming a fact. The hit show, Wednesday, is once again top of the most popular charts and confirms its place in the history of Netflix at large.

It’s hard to quantify the impact of the show. One need only look at the regular column inches it has been given over the last four weeks to realise just how culturally important the show has become. Whether it is Lady Gaga performing the legendary hands dance or the show sending The Cramps and their moody punk hit ‘Goo Goo Muck’ into the charts once more, Wednesday has become a viral hit.

Another 174 million hours of viewing mean that Ortega’s Wednesday and the rest of the alumni of Nevermore Academy could soon be approaching 1 billion hours of viewing, which is not something we’ve seen since Stranger Things. Judging by these numbers and the general audience reception, we could easily see Wednesday become the streaming platform’s most successful venture.

The other big hitter of the week comes from slightly more salacious sources, as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s tell-all documentary Harry & Meghan is once again in the most-watched chart this week. It amassed another 97 million hours of viewing in its second week on the charts.

There were a few new entries on this week’s chart, with The Recruit taking the third spot with 52 million hours of viewing; the first season of Sonic Prime is also on the top ten list. The final new entry this week was Don’t Pick Up The Phone, which is about as creepy as one might expect.

A few stalwarts of the chart remain as audiences catch up to the releases of the second season of Firefly Lane, the fifth season of The Crown and the huge first season of 1899, all scored over 10 million hours of viewing.
