The 10 most popular series on Netflix this week: August 2024

It hasn’t been a great week for new episodic additions to the Netflix content library, with the top ten most-watched TV shows not looking entirely dissimilar from last week.

For the second consecutive frame, Emily in Paris handily leads the pack with another stellar week to reinforce its credentials as one of the biggest titles the streaming service has at its disposal, with Lily Collins’ Parisian misadventures adding another 14.9 million views on the platform.

Once again, 30 per cent of the rankings are comprised of the show, with the first and third seasons down in seventh and eighth position, ensuring that whether subscribers were familiar with Emily in Paris or not, more of them are now than ever before. There is still no love for the second season, though, which is the only one that’s failed to return to the top ten since the first half of the fourth run dropped two weeks ago.

True crime story American Murder: Laci Peterson has held on to the runner-up spot, with Netflix’s staunch devotion to anything revolving around death, despair, and murder continuing to draw in users with the greatest of ease.

The highest-ranked newcomer is the dramatised docuseries Wyatt Earp and the Cowboy War, an unexpectedly strong showing for a fact-based historical western in the face of splashier competition. Beyond that, however, it hasn’t been a particularly memorable week for the new additions.

In fact, there are only three in total in the top ten, and one of them is the first season of mystery thriller Lost, which premiered almost 20 years ago in September 2004. The other is the first season of psychological literary adaptation Dark Winds, which isn’t even a Netflix original having aired on AMC since June 2022.

Essentially, Wyatt Earp and the Cowboy War is the only one of the ten that’s a true Netflix exclusive to crack the top ten to wave a solitary flag for brand new content, with the rest of the charts comprising the fourth and final outing for comic book caper The Umbrella Academy, reality dating show Love Is Blind‘s United Kingdom spinoff and Matt Rife’s latest stand-up special Lucid.
