The 10 most popular movies on Netflix US this week: September 2025

With the streaming landscape shifting worldwide, the changes are clear as daylight in the US as well. But if you think the global trends on the top ten most popular movies chart on Netflix mirror the US scene from top to bottom, you’re in for a surprise.

KPop Demon Hunters has not just lost the reigning momentum on the international charts. It has slipped to second position in the US, too. However, it’s not the global chart-topper who has managed to topple the animated flick from the top spot. Instead, it’s Liam Neeson’s latest action thriller, Ice Road: Vengeance.

While that sorts out the top two, rounding out the top three Stateside is Miranda Cosgrove’s newly released rom-com, The Wrong Paris. Although the flick is currently leading the most popular movies chart worldwide, in the US, it remains third on the rankings.

Moving on to the next US trendsetters, we have Andrew Renzi’s explosive new documentary on the Two and a Half Men star, aka Charlie Sheen. The docufilm is succeeded by another title that is busy rising through the ranks internationally, Terror Comes Knocking: The Marcela Borges Story.

When you surf a little downwards, a 2022 comedy will be peaking through, Moving On, which explains that the US subscribers are far from done with laughter riots this streaming season. But then again, with Netflix dropping new titles every now and then, they clearly couldn’t resist adding 28 Years Later to their weekly watchlist.

The film is presently ranked seventh on the top ten most popular movies chart in the US, just behind the catfish documentary that refuses to go into oblivion, Unknown Number: The High School Catfish. The Netflix original true-crime documentary is positioned eighth on the charts, keeping its momentum as it goes from national to international.

Lastly, the Shrek fever lives on. Although a few titles from the movie collection have left the charts early, the same cannot be said for the first two releases from the franchise. Hence, completing this week’s most popular movies chart in the US is Shrek, followed by Shrek 2 at ninth and tenth, respectively.
