By the looks of it, nothing can truly restrain Maggie Kang’s animated flick from staying at the top, even if it means losing the momentum for a stronger comeback.

But the K-pop group of girls is not just reigning the charts; they’re officially flipping the script by sending last week’s crown-holder to the second position, Unknown Number: High School Catfish. Guess everyone loves a good round of musical chairs, after all! While the animation frenzy is clear as daylight, the documentary craze is honestly no less Stateside.

Andrew Renzi’s tell-all documentary, aka Charlie Sheen, is rising through the ranks, currently positioned third. Following closely on the fourth is a rather recent rom-com starring Miranda Cosgrove, The Wrong Paris.

What’s also clear from the US trends on this week’s most popular movies chart is that Netflix users love a good franchise marathon. Setting the vibe of the week at the fifth and sixth positions are Shrek and Shrek 2. Sure, they’ve taken a fall in the global rankings. But once you zoom in with your binoculars, they enjoy a far comfortable seat in the American households.

In the week dated September 8th to September 14th, new players have also sneaked into the charts, like the 2022 Western romance, Redeeming Love. Although considered a Rotten Tomatoes bomb with only an 11% approval rate, it’s presently positioned seventh in the US. However, from then onwards, the franchise frenzy becomes all the more transparent as Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg’s rib-tickling double-bill buddy comedy Daddy’s Home 2 and Daddy’s Home take up the eighth and ninth rankings.

Rounding out the most popular movies chart is one of the most beloved movies of all time, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. And with that, we have the top ten US trendsetters of this week.
