From local to global, there’s a unanimous chant on the most popular movies chart on Netflix, with the US list being no different.

In the week dated April 27th to May 3rd, Baltasar Kormákur’s Apex continues its streak of trailblazing, after garnering 40.2million views in the second week of release. While it is currently the number one movie on the most popular movies chart globally, the survival thriller is also the leading title in 80 countries, in addition to the US.

Next in the US lineup this week is the Skydance Animation-produced fantasy-adventure, Swapped, which debuted at number two globally as well as in the US. Meanwhile, moving on to the third pick of US viewers this week, it’s the teen dramedy, Roommates, making waves on the most popular movies chart.

Although the first few trendsetters might make you curious about whether the global and the US trends are one and the same, well, all we can say is that you’re in for a surprise the further you scroll.

Ranked fourth on the most popular movies chart in the US this week is a surprise entry, the 2018 biographical comedy drama, Green Book, based on the 1962 true story of Don Shirley and Frank “Tony Lip” Vallelonga’s tour of the Deep South. And the title succeeding it?

Well, it’s none other than Netflix’s mainstay, the Oscar-winning KPop Demon Hunters, which follows a K-pop group of girls who double as demon slayers.

While the most popular movies chart globally boasts an uptick of animated movies, US viewers have sided with all things light-hearted with The Boss, currently positioned sixth on the charts. Directed by Ben Falcone, the 2016 comedy tells the story of an industry tycoon who loses it all after being imprisoned for insider trading.

Up next on the most popular movies chart on Netflix US, we have the black comedy thriller, Bugonia, making waves at number seven. It serves as the English-language remake of the 2003 South Korean movie, Save the Green Planet!

Following the same is the family-friendly animated comedy, Minions: The Rise of Gru, still going strong on the US charts.
