The 10 most popular movies on Netflix US this week: July 2025

Netflix viewers around the globe have been feasting on cinematic delights this week – but over in the US, it’s less gourmet and more goofball on the menu. While the global and US most popular movie lists start out holding hands, things take a detour faster than a Hollywood plot twist a little down the line. With the king of comedic charm, Adam Sandler, back in action, Happy Gilmore 2 has Americans literally saying, “forget everything else.”

Sandler’s funny bones have always been the comfort food for viewers after a long day. But this time around, they probably didn’t realise this was what they had been craving all along. But don’t worry, KPop Demon Hunters is not getting ghosted. The animated chart-topper still has a seat at the streaming table. In fact, it’s the next best seat to Happy Gilmore 2, at number two.

That said, spectators aren’t satisfied with Sandler giving out happy pills just at the starting line. This week’s movie menu has twice the dose of Happy Gilmore, with the 1996 original currently ranked third. It looks like when it comes to golf, giggles, and glorious one-liners, Sandler’s still the hole-in-one hero of the week. Still, those who feel his comedy prescriptions are a bit too R-rated, US fans have found a perfect kid-friendly substitute, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.

And to ensure no one leaves the room hungry for comedy, taking the comfort seat at fifth is Madea’s Destination Wedding. Although the Tyler Perry film has slipped from the top five popular movies list globally, the 13th Madea film is clearly still rioting the roads Stateside.

The horror-survival drama Until Dawn, which recently sneaked into the global charts, has found a more profound place in the US. It is currently ranked sixth, serving as the streaming counterbalance to all those laughter pills Sandler has been giving out. But then comes a title that neither the global nor the US audience seems to get enough of, the Trainwreck anthology.

Trainwreck: PI Moms is their current portal to the true world of bizarre. As you go down the most popular movies US chart, you’ll also stumble across another pioneer of comedy, Kevin Hart. Ride Along 2, the Hart and Ice Cube co-led comedy script, has been storming the Netflix chart for two straight weeks now.

And joining forces with it is another animated comedy, offering US fans the perfect balance of adult and family-friendly streaming outings with Despicable Me 4. But knowing Netflix, it just won’t go without a fight. Hence, if you thought they had something sweet for dessert, it’s comfort packed in action, the 2008 thriller, Wanted.
