The 10 most popular movies on Netflix US this week: January 2026
If the most popular movies chart on Netflix across the globe undergoes a shuffle with the New Year, how can the one in the US stay back?
Following in the footsteps of Netflix’s global trends, the fascination with the world of true crime has officially reached Stateside and the undisputed rise of Evil Influencer: The Jodi Hildebrandt Story is proof.
Skye Borgman’s last offering of 2025, which recounts the horrific accounts of child abuse at the hands of Jodi Hildebrandt and Ruby Franke, has been clearly making waves on Netflix. On the global scale, the Netflix true-crime documentary amassed a staggering 15million views, making it the number one movie in 60 countries, including the US and the UK, among others.
But although the peak looks all the same, the scenic shift is palpable when you take the hike downwards. Instead of KPop Demon Hunters, we have yet another animated blockbuster peeking through, the first animated film in the Spider-Man franchise, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. While the film also sneaked into the global most popular movies chart, it clearly enjoys a far better position in the US.
Succeeding the superhero movie on the US charts is the Jason Statham-led high-stakes action thriller, Wrath of Man. Like its chart predecessor, the film comparatively enjoys a more comfortable position in the US. Meanwhile, following closely is yet another animated title, Maggie Kang’s record-breaking fantasy musical and Netflix’s mainstay, KPop Demon Hunters.
Rounding out the top five titles in the week dated December 29th to January 4th is Rian Johnson’s latest whodunit starring Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
On the sixth, we have a blast from the past, the Denzel Washington starrer, Man on Fire. Ranking seventh on the most popular movies chart in the US is Ford v Ferrari, which Netflix most recently added to its US library right at the onset of 2026.
But amid it all, a horror-mystery title, The Girl Who Got Away, was seen rising through the ranks, at number eight. Meanwhile, on the ninth, there’s Pitch Perfect 2, still going strong.
Lastly, wrapping up the most popular movies chart on Netflix US is Priscilla, and with that, we officially come to a close for the week.
