While the shift is just as palpable on the most popular movies on Netflix US this week as it is in the global charts, not every trend is one and the same. But to grasp the differences, we must begin right from the start.

In the week dated February 9th to February 15th, Joe’s College Road Trip has not only taken the top spot on the most popular movies chart globally, but also in the US. The road comedy, directed by Tyler Perry, debuted with a whopping 12.5million views, becoming the number one movie in eight countries, including the US, Canada, Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, and Martinique, among others.

Not to forget that Joe’s College Road Trip is additionally one of the top ten titles in a staggering 43 countries! So, while its position at the top in the US doesn’t come as a surprise, we cannot say the same about what follows next.

Although Netflix subscribers worldwide have given in to a recently released true-crime documentary, in the US, it’s the live-action remake of the adventure fantasy film, How to Train Your Dragon, making waves at number two. Directed by Dean DeBlois, the 2025 movie was added to the Netflix library just last week, and it is already busy sprinkling chart magic.

Having said that, on the third, we have The Investigation of Lucy Letby, still going strong on the most popular movies chart. For those new on the block, the spine-tingling true crime documentary recounts the trail of horror the former neonatal nurse, convicted of murdering seven babies, left in her wake. Despite facing formidable challenges and backlash before it could even release, the docu-film has been maintaining a streaming momentum unlike any other.

Moving on, there’s a Jason Statham-led action thriller, Homefront, ranked fourth on the most popular movies chart in the US. While the punch-fest also appeared on the global charts, it enjoys a far more promising position in America. Meanwhile, rounding out the top five titles on the US charts is the 2018 romantic comedy, Overboard.

Succeeding Overboard on the most popular movies chart in the US is yet another romantic-comedy drama, directed by Rob Reiner, Flipped. And by the looks of it, this is one of the relatively recent entries in the US. That said, what’s not new on Netflix charts is the record-breaking most-watched movie of all time, KPop Demon Hunters.

Ranked seventh, the Golden Globe-winning animated musical refuses to let go of its spot on the most popular movies chart. Meanwhile, on number eight, there’s A Father’s Miracle rising through the ranks – an emotional drama about a devoted father wrongfully put behind bars for a crime he didn’t commit.

Lastly, the titles wrapping up this week’s most popular movies chart on Netflix US are the Ethan Hawke-led mystery thriller, The Black Phone, and the 2000s fantasy comedy film, Night at the Museum. And with that, we officially come to a close.
