The most popular movies chart on Netflix US is usually dynamic and always in a state of flux. But then there come a select few films that manage to take the charts by storm, refusing to leave the top spot week after week.

In the week dated January 26th to February 1st, The Rip ended up being that film, charting on the US as well as the global charts for three consecutive weeks. The Matt Damon and Ben Affleck-led cop thriller amassed a whopping 14.6million views, becoming the number one movie in 16 countries.

Although the most popular movies chart in the US often mirrors global trends, succeeding the action thriller for a change on the charts is the sci-fi action film, M3GAN 2.0. While you might stumble onto this movie in the global charts a little down the line, Americans have put it straight in the second spot, and definitely not without reason.

Following closely on the US chart is the gripping new true-crime documentary revisiting a horrific abduction, Kidnapped: Elizabeth Smart. Despite being in its second week of run, its cultural momentum remains stronger than ever.

That said, M3GAN 2.0 isn’t the only title to enjoy a better position in the most popular movies chart in the US in comparison to the global one. The 2024 documentary, Secret Mall Apartment, which is ranked tenth on Netflix’s international charts, is now comfortably seated Stateside at number three.

Moving on, we have the Oscar-nominated KPop Demon Hunters making waves on the fifth. While the award season already belongs to the record-breaking animated musical, with each passing week, it’s solidifying its chart position even more.

Meanwhile, on the sixth, there’s the last James Bond film starring Daniel Craig, No Time to Die. Netflix added the entire film series halfway through January, so the rise isn’t exactly a surprise. However, if you carefully observe, Spectre has officially left the charts, making No Time to Die the only James Bond movie currently trending on Netflix worldwide.

Up next, there’s the beloved Emily Henry adaptation, People We Meet on Vacation, followed by a new heartfelt comedy drama film rising through the ranks in the most popular movies chart in the US, Eleanor the Great.

Lastly, we have two animated mainstays rounding out the US trends for the week, PAW Patrol: The Movie, followed by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. And with that, it’s a wrap.
