The 10 most popular movies on Netflix US this week: December 2025

The most popular movies chart on Netflix US usually carries an imprint of the global trends whenever the list is released weekly. While that’s somewhat true in this week’s statistics as well, the trendsetters may not be one and the same in both cases.

In the week dated December 1st to December 7th, Americans chose Troll 2 as the chart-topper of the week. For those uninitiated, it serves as the sequel to the original monster film, Troll.

Although the distinction between the global and regional charts is palpable right from the start, in the US, too, the frenzy surrounding holiday rom-coms is slowly seeping in, as is evident from My Secret Santa’s rise to second position.

Succeeding the festive romantic comedy is an animated family adventure series, Rio and Rio 2, on the most popular movies chart in the US. The first movie from the franchise also appears in the global charts, but it doesn’t enjoy as promising a position as it does in the States.

Rounding out the top five titles on the US chart is Netflix’s most-watched movie of all time, Maggie Kang’s record-breaking KPop Demon Hunters, which recently nabbed three Golden Globe nominations after earning five nods in the Grammys.

Once done with the top five trendsetters, we again find Americans wrapped in the entertainment bubble of holiday rom-coms. This time, it’s all thanks to Jingle Bell Heist, which is ranked sixth on the most popular movies chart in the US. Since the holiday favourite has been receiving love across the globe, its rise in the US charts is not exactly a surprise.

But romantic is not the only brand of comedy US viewers are favouring this season, as the black comedy thriller, Caught Stealing, makes itself at home in seventh. While that’s something new to take note of, what’s not is Jay Kelly’s rising through the ranks, despite having been a relatively recent Netflix offering.

The George Clooney and Adam Sandler-led comedy drama is ranked eighth, just ahead of Alex Woo’s animated gem, In Your Dreams. Finally, wrapping up the trends in the most popular movies chart in the US is Cheaper by the Dozen.
