Some titles on Netflix tend to leave even before the party gets started. And then there is KPop Demon Hunters, whose party theatrics just don’t go out of style. While globally it remains the second-most watched title, it is ruling single-handedly at the top of the ten most popular movies on Netflix US this week.

Last week, KPop Demon Hunters made itself cosy on Netflix’s all-time charts. And now, it’s reigning the US charts like it just got started. Alongside the animated chart-topper, US fans are also loving Happy Gilmore 2, currently ranked number two.

Meanwhile, the global topper, My Oxford Year, is positioned third, climbing up the Netflix charts like there’s no tomorrow. And while fans make the most of this rom-com return, Freelance sneaks into the top four, offering fans a hearty dose of comedy and action in a petri dish of weekly feasts.

Americans have also developed a soft corner for family-friendly titles from the past. As of now, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is comfortably fifth, although it dips a few spots down globally. Similarly, another title from the global charts has been raking up views in the top ten most popular movies chart in the US: Kandahar.

The 2023 action thriller has recently become the talk of the streaming town. Clearly, the momentum is evident across regions. The animation frenzy has been palpable on Netflix for the last few weeks. Just like Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation extended the stay globally, in the US too, it refuses to get lost in the wave of new adventure comedies.

US viewers have also opened their arms for a few new guests. Ranked currently eighth on the top ten most popular US chart is the 2016 sci-fi action film, The 5th Wave. Succeeding that is the 2010 family-friendly comedy, Megamind.

As for the last? The 2016 fantasy action film, Gods of Egypt, rounds out the top ten most popular movies chart. All in all, this week has been a mixed bag in terms of cinema. But if you look closely, comedies still have an upper hand.
