The 10 most popular movies on Netflix US this week: August 2025

The Adam Sandler effect is really palpable on Netflix. Even if you’re zoomed in with the binoculars Stateside, the chance of catching every household tuning into the Happy Gilmore follow-up is the most likely. While the Netflix sequel is already leading the top ten most popular movies chart, even in the US, the throne belongs to Happy Gilmore 2.

Following closely at number two is KPop Demon Hunters, spending seven weeks straight on the charts. By the looks of it, the rat race has reached a fever pitch between Happy’s recent golf outing and the K-pop troupe of demon slayers.

Rounding out the top three titles is the family-friendly flick that has recently been on the rise, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. And just like My Oxford Year is making a presence on the global charts, it has also sneaked into the US most popular movies chart at number four.

As fans relive the resurgence of rom-coms on Netflix, Trainwreck: Storm Area 51 is keeping the trend of bizarre guilty pleasures intact. Although the anthology has come to a close, the frenzy is far from lost.

Similarly, the 1996 comedy Happy Gilmore is going strong. The Denis Duggan-directed flick has also been making waves on the global Netflix charts. Likewise, it is still ranked sixth in the US weekly charts. Meanwhile, an action-comedy from the August arrival arc on Netflix, Freelance, has recently entered the most popular movies chart.

What can be understood from the Netflix trends in the US is that viewers have been engaging in light-hearted viewing throughout the week. However, to counterbalance the feel-good, there’s Until Dawn, sending chills down the spines, positioned at eighth.

A previous comedy chart-topper, Madea’s Destination Wedding, has officially slipped down to number nine. But another action-comedy flick has entered the chat, After the Sunset, wrapping this week with all things easy and breezy.
