The 10 most popular movies on Netflix this week: September 2025
Netflix keeps on handing us a mirror of what the world is actually watching every week, and sometimes that mirror is startling. In other words, September’s final chart isn’t neat or predictable.
Sometimes, it’s new releases, and sometimes, it’s old favourites fans have brought back to the charts. When taken together, the Top 10 feels like a mood board of everything audiences are craving right now. And this time it involves a small touch of everything.
Back again at number one is KPop Demon Hunters, a film that has decided not to leave the spot at any cost. The film has been in the Top 5 for more than 15 weeks now, and it is not a surprise anymore. But you can’t blame it, as it has broken not just the Top 10 records but many of those of Netflix.
Number two is Ruth & Boaz, a sweeping retelling of an Old Testament story. Historical epics often find a strong footing on Netflix, but what’s striking here is the international audience it has pulled in. For some, it’s faith; for others, it’s pure drama. Either way, it has carved out a spot high on the list.
Holding down number three is The Wrong Paris. It’s a Miranda Cosgrove rom-com with the ultimate bait-and-switch premise. Paris, France? Nope, here it’s Paris, Texas, complete with a reality dating show twist. The concept alone has been enough to light up social feeds, and the streaming numbers are the proof.
At number four, we have Man on Fire, which reminds us that Denzel Washington never goes out of style. The 2004 thriller about a bodyguard turned avenger has surged since arriving on Netflix. Its ranking in the top five shows how a classic can feel brand new when it comes in front of a new generation.
Number five belongs to Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which crushed it at the cinemas and then raced from there straight into streaming charts. This animated film is full of bright colours, nostalgic nods, and a family-friendly story that has kept it firmly planted in the middle of the list. It’s proof that some franchises never run out of energy.
At number six, Seventh Son is enjoying the kind of second life streaming was made for. The 2014 fantasy film didn’t quite land in theatres, but its mix of witches, warriors, and big-name stars has finally found its audience online. This movie is a prime example of the fact that sometimes you need to give a flop film some time and let it stream on Netflix to make it a hit.
Number seven goes to San Andreas, because who doesn’t want to watch The Rock outrun an earthquake? Disaster movies are pure comfort viewing because they have huge stakes with implausible solutions, and you just can’t get your eyes off the screen. No wonder it’s back on the chart.
In eighth place, 28 Years Later is proving that the zombie genre still has bite. Fans waited years for this sequel, and now that it’s here, they’re showing up in droves. It’s relentless and exactly what long-time horror watchers were hoping for.
At number nine, The Curse of La Llorona slips in with its familiar ghostly tale. Part of The Conjuring universe, it may not have won critics, but viewers clearly don’t care. A late-night scare is still a late-night scare, and Netflix makes it too easy to press play.
Rounding out the chart at number ten is aka Charlie Sheen: Season 1. Celebrity documentaries have always been a Netflix speciality, but this one comes with decades of headlines baked in together.
