The 10 most popular movies on Netflix this week: September 2025

Somebody had to snatch the crown from Netflix’s history maker. This week of September, somebody has actually done it, as is evident from the new North Star on the top ten most popular movies chart on Netflix.

Despite trailblazing for weeks on the summit, KPop Demon Hunters has finally been toppled from the top spot, thanks to the Netflix documentary making waves, Unknown Number: High School Catfish.

Having amassed 23.6million views alone this week, the twisted true-crime documentary is officially a global leader on Netflix, the number one title in 16 countries. Although Maggie Kang’s chart-topper had to slip from the apex, KPop Demon Hunters is far from the exit.

The animated flick is currently clutching silver for its 12th week on the top ten most popular movies chart. It’s still the number one movie in 19 countries, and this week, it has earned 25.4million views. Moving on, The Thursday Murder Club has clearly evolved into a fan-favourite. With 18.7million views, the motley crew of detectives is ranked third, as the number one movie in 21 countries.

But here onwards, there’s a clear change within the cinematic landscape. Gina Prince-Bythewood’s historical epic action adventure, The Woman King, has sneaked into the charts. Not by tiptoeing but straight with an audacious climb up to the fourth place. And as expected, the September arrival arc on Netflix has begun to sprinkle its magic as well.

Shrek and Shrek the Third have been storming the top ten most popular movies on Netflix this week. They are ranked fifth and sixth with 3.6million and 3.3million views amassed, respectively. Sandwiched between the latter and Shrek 2 is another stubborn animated gem, Paw Patrol: The Movie. While the Shrek frenzy is at a fever pitch on Netflix, subscribers have also saved room for the Yellowstone creator.

Taylor Sheridan’s Western crime thriller, Wind River, has been rising through the ranks, currently positioned at ninth. Lastly, before The Rip comes with the mighty duet of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, Netflix users are reliving the magic of their 1997 blockbuster romantic drama, Good Will Hunting. And with that, it’s a wrap for this week’s ten most popular movies chart on Netflix.
