Just when viewers thought there was no beating KPop Demon Hunters in the rat race of the most popular movies on Netflix, Simon Stone’s The Woman in Cabin 10 did the unthinkable.

In a historic showdown, probably no one saw coming this time, the psychological thriller surpassed Maggie Kang’s animated film, earning 21.2million views this week as the number one movie in a whopping 43 countries.

Although KPop Demon Hunters may have had to leave the top spot in the most popular movies chart globally, it’s still going strong, clutching silver with 17.8million views in the week dated October 6th to October 12th. It also remains the number one movie in three countries on its 17th week of stay on the weekly Netflix charts.

Rounding out the top three is the recently released true crime documentary, My Father, the BTK Killer, which became the top ten movie in 31 countries. And with that, it’s clear that a lot has changed in the global cinematic landscape on Netflix.

Following the docu-film rather closely at the fourth position is the sci-fi action movie, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire. So far, what’s trending on Netflix is completely genre-bending. And what attests all the more to the claim is the movie storming at the fifth position, the animated gem that’s worth every rewatch, Despicable Me 3.

Meanwhile, Netflix added a whole lot of movies from Hollywood’s Hall of Fame earlier in October. And the arrival arc has clearly paid off. Viewers are loving The Mask’s touchdown on Netflix as it shoots up the chart, currently ranking fifth. Although Tyler Perry’s Ruth & Boaz has gone down in a visible fall from last week, the biblical retelling still has its mark on the chart on the sixth.

But the change is not just palpable at the top of the charts. The Maze Runner, which was recently added to Netflix, has also sneaked into the most popular movies chart on Netflix this week.

Wrapping up the most popular movies chart globally, however, are About My Father and Scary Movie, offering Netflix subscribers the perfect dose of fun and jump scares all at once.
