As a cutthroat survival thriller, Apex isn’t just surviving the trends. Instead, it’s leading them once again on the most popular movies chart on Netflix this week.

In the week of April 27th to May 3rd, Baltasar Kormákur’s Netflix thriller starring Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton amassed a whopping 40.2million views on the most popular movies chart globally.

While it’s undoubtedly the leader of the wolf pack this time around, Apex is currently also the number one movie in 81 countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, the Bahamas, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic, among others.

Following next on the most popular movies chart this week is the animated fantasy-adventure, Swapped, voiced by Michael B Jordan. The buddy comedy debuted on the global charts this week with 15.5million views, becoming one of the top 10 titles in 90 countries.

Up next on the international charts is the shark-infested survival thriller, Thrash, still making waves with 4.3million views in its fourth week since its release. Although the frenzy surrounding Tommy Wirkola’s Netflix movie is far from over, succeeding the thriller is yet another animated adventure comedy, Migration, currently ranked fourth on the most popular movies chart.

On the fifth, we have the Oscar-winning KPop Demon Hunters, strutting on the global charts for 46 weeks and still going strong, like it just released yesterday. And its chart appearance is honestly no surprise since it is an official mainstay for Netflix.

Next in the trendsetting lineup of the most popular movies chart this week, there’s the brutal revenge thriller, 180, with 3.7million views. Having said that, ranked seventh on the chart is the teen dramedy starring Sadie Sandler, Roommates, with 3.6million views.

Moving on to number eight, there’s a forgotten Sophie Turner thriller, Trust, storming the most popular movies chart globally, after garnering 3.5million views.

Although thrillers on Netflix have an undeniable edge on the most popular movies chart this week, 40% of the trendsetters are also from the animated catalogue, which explains the sudden rise of Miraculous World: Paris, Tales of Shadybug & Claw Noir, to ninth.
