In the final week of May, the most popular movies chart on Netflix summoned a one-of-a-kind cinematic storm with the best of the best, and currently, the global trends speak for themselves.

In the week ending May 31st, the body-swap comedy Ladies First, starring Sacha Baron Cohen and Rosamund Pike, amassed a whopping 18.8million views, becoming the number one title in 42 countries, including Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Panama, and Venezuela, among others. Although the movie failed to grab the top spot in its debut week, now it’s busy reigning worldwide.

Ranked second on the most popular movies chart is the previous week’s chart-topper, Gareth Johnson’s true-crime movie, The Crash. In its third week since its premiere, the Netflix documentary has garnered 14million views and is currently one of the top ten trending movies in 66 countries.

Up next on the most popular movies chart is Nathan Greno’s record-breaking animated fantasy adventure, Swapped, still going strong like it’s the very first week. As the number one movie in two countries this week, it has earned 10.5million views globally.

Following it closely is yet another animated comedy, albeit from the sports sector, GOAT, starring Caleb McLaughlin. Also, in its third week since its Netflix release, the sports comedy movie is currently ranked fourth with 9.4million views. Meanwhile, rounding out the top five trendsetters of the week is a forgotten horror adventure from the late 2000s, A Perfect Getaway, with 6.7million views, starring some big names like Chris Hemsworth, prior to his Thor fame.

Although streaming trends come and go since they’re always in a state of flux, the frenzy surrounding Baltasar Kormákur’s Apex, starring Charlize Theron, is far from dead. In fact, during the week of May 25th to May 31st, the survival thriller is ranked sixth with 6.1million views.

Another surprise rise on the most popular movies chart this week is the 2025 action thriller, Cleaner, starring Samuel L Jackson, and next on the queue is Olivia Newman’s critically acclaimed Netflix adaptation of Shelby Van Pelt’s Remarkably Bright Creatures, with 4.9million views.

While we know the anxiety was sky-high about KPop Demon Hunters exiting the race by this week, fortunately, it’s not time yet. The Oscar-winning film is ranked ninth on the most popular movies chart, despite losing its comfort spot in regional territories.

Finally, wrapping up this week’s most popular movies chart is a rom-com viewers probably didn’t see coming: Guess Who. And with that, we officially come to a close for May. See you in June!
