The 10 most popular movies on Netflix this week: May 2026
Despite missing the top spot on the most popular movies chart on Netflix in its premiere week, Swapped has finally flapped its wings for a miracle milestone this time around.
In the week dated May 4th to May 10th, the fantasy-adventure comedy, directed by Nathan Greno, amassed a whopping 38.7million views, ranking first on the most popular movies chart this week.
While the animated movie became the second English-language film when it debuted with 15.5million views in its first three days, Swapped is currently the number one movie in 77 countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, the Bahamas, and beyond.
Next on the most popular movies chart is the Charlize Theron-led survival thriller, Apex, directed by Baltasar Kormákur. After trailblazing on top of the charts for two consecutive weeks, the action-packed flick is ranked second on Netflix’s international chart this week with 16.2million views as the number one movie in six countries.
Ranked third on the most popular movies chart this week is Olivia Newman’s mystery-drama adaptation, Remarkably Bright Creatures, which premiered on Netflix last Friday, May 8th. The Netflix movie, which adapts Shelby Van Pelt’s beloved novel, debuted with 10.4million views this week, becoming one of the top 10 titles in 64 countries!
Next in the queue is a forgotten Jason Statham action thriller, Mechanic: Resurrection, now making waves on Netflix after nearly a decade since its theatrical release. Meanwhile, rounding out the top five titles is the Oscar-winning KPop Demon Hunters, still going strong as if it were released just yesterday.
That said, positioned sixth on the most popular movies chart this week is a horror-comedy, Jennifer’s Body, which appeared at the bottom of the global charts last week. While the movie has clearly enjoyed a push throughout the week, in the wake of the weekend-long celebrations, the 2016 rom-com Mother’s Day has also experienced a surprise rise, putting it on par with the next two titles in terms of viewership figures.
Following it just as closely on the most popular movies chart is yet another rom-com classic, The Proposal, with 2.7million views, tying with the viewership of the title right below, the gritty, breathtaking action thriller The Hunt.
Lastly, pulling the curtains once and for all this week is the fan-favourite sci-fi comedy Home, with 2.6million views. And with that, it’s officially a wrap for now!
