The 10 most popular movies on Netflix this week: July 2025
Ever thought what a midweek Netflix feast could look like? On one end sits a K-pop group of demon slayers munching on views like it’s the only appetiser on the table. On the other hand, there is a tale from the realm of the ridiculously true that has room for more. Sandwiched between the two is a ticket to one big fat wedding in the Bahamas. And by the looks of the ten most popular movies on Netflix this week, fans have found their comfort food.
In the week dated July 14th to July 20th, the ten most popular movies chart is globally led by KPop Demon Hunters. Sounds familiar? Well, that’s because the animated musical action fantasy film also topped the charts last week and a few weeks before it. Maggie Kang’s film has already spent five weeks on the top ten charts, and this time, it’s the number one movie in 26 countries.
Following rather closely is Tyler Perry’s 13th Madea film, Madea’s Destination Wedding, currently ranked second. Having spent two weeks on the charts, the comedy riot is presently the number one movie in nine countries. And guess who completes the top three? It’s the Balloon Boy story of the ongoing Trainwreck anthology. No matter how wild or bizarre it may sound, the Trainwreck series is the next gen guilty pleasures fans cannot get enough of.
But do you know what’s common between the top three and the title ranked fourth? All of them refuse to be swept up in the current of the streaming influx. Reigning at Netflix’s most popular movies chart for the third week straight is Charlize Theron’s action sequel, The Old Guard 2. It picks up six months after the events of the first film, which left Andy grappling with mortality, and Booker in exile. Not to forget the action queen, Uma Thurman, who joined the immortals this time around.
Netflix subscribers have clearly found their favourites this July. But as the month slips fast, new titles are scrambling for attention. Lost on a Mountain in Maine, the 2024 survival drama, is climbing fast on the most popular movies chart, currently ranked fifth. It follows a 12-year-old boy’s fight to stay alive for nine days in the backwoods of Maine following a stormy encounter, resulting in separation from family.
The next flick on the list is something familiar, yet again. It’s the Adam Sandler comedy gem, Happy Gilmore, that’s raking up views in sequel anticipation. For those out of the loop, Happy Gilmore 2 will be on Netflix on Friday, July 25th, 2025. And speaking of comedy comebacks, the Kevin Hart and Ice Cube-led buddy cop film, Ride Along 2, is number seven. But that’s not all. Perry’s A Madea Homecoming is also back on the charts, thanks to the latest entry.
In a plot twist no one saw coming, the horror mystery Smile 2 tiptoed onto the scene like a creepy clown at a birthday party. And while that sinister grin isn’t cracking any knock-knock jokes, comedy still snatched the mic with The Boss Baby – the pint-sized, suit-wearing spy who somehow makes corporate espionage look like daycare playtime.
This week’s watchlist was a full-blown comedy buffet with a few action, adventure, and horror side dishes. And it looks like the audience literally belly-flopped into the frosting.
