The 10 most popular movies on Netflix this week: July 2025

To keep up with Netflix is no cakewalk. But by now, viewers have learnt to confront the tidal shifts of the streaming world. Every week, the drumrolls of what’s next on Netflix keep fans glued to their screens. And the sheer anticipation and reception of those releases solidify the streamer’s position on the throne. Netflix recently doubled down on its rollout strategy with a queue of movies so incredible that July’s most popular movies list is raking views.

The list is a mosaic of old and new, ranging from action movies to animated films, and much more. Last week, Kpop Demon Hunters reached the summit, making waves on Netflix. Although another Netflix original has officially toppled the K-pop troupe of girls from the top spot, it remains the second-most popular movie on Netflix for the week. But who leads the pack?

Well, the Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman effect has left an indelible mark on the audience. Currently, The Old Guard 2 sits atop the most popular Netflix movies chart. The recently released superhero punchfest picks up six months after the events of the original film, which left Andy mortal and Booker in exile. However, it’s not just the sequel. Even the first film is on the top ten popular movies chart, but we’ll get there.

KPop Demon Hunters follows right next in number two. Despite having already spent three weeks on the chart, the animated film shows no signs of slowing down yet. Here, K-pop’s global heat meets Hollywood hype, igniting a cinematic pull that has fans craving more demon-slaying action. However, the flick that left many surprised with its quantum leap on the chart is Antoine Fuqua’s sci-fi action film, Infinite.

While that wraps up the top three trailblazers of Netflix’s most popular chart, guess what’s on number four? The Old Guard! The Old Guard 2 frenzy has clearly taken a positive toll on the original film. The 2020 superhero flick made a gigantic stride from its ninth position last week to the fourth this time. So, even five years down the line, it’s safe to say that the immortals haven’t gone out of style.

Another thing fans cannot visibly get over on Netflix is the Trainwreck anthology. The Trainwreck anthology is currently a streaming sensation. From political scandals to fiasco festivals, it’s a case study in disaster management failure. But what pulls the crowd again and again is the allure of messy mishaps, a thing best enjoyed from afar. The fifth and sixth positions are taken by Trainwreck: The Cult of the American Apparel and the super messy Trainwreck: Poop Cruise.

But these are not the only documentaries running on viewers’ fuel. Even The Shark Whisperers has snuck in at the seventh position. The last three on the list are Gerard Butler’s high-stakes action thriller Plane (2023), the Adam Sandler laughter riot, Grown Ups 2 (2013), and Tyler Perry’s hard-hitting Straw (2025).
