You can say a lot about the cultural trends with just one look at the most popular movies chart on Netflix. As far as what we observed this week, the chart officially belongs to the ultimate dynamic duo of Hollywood, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

That’s right! The Joe Carnahan-directed action thriller, The Rip, has debuted to a whopping 41.6million views in the week dated January 12th to January 18th. In addition to leading the most popular movies chart globally, the cop thriller is also the number one movie in 82 countries, including Argentina, Canada, Brazil, the US, and the UK, among others.

Succeeding the punch-fest on the most popular movies chart is the previous week’s chart-topper, the first Emily Henry adaptation for the screen, People We Meet on Vacation. Having amassed 23.3million views this week, the romantic comedy remains the number one movie in three countries, including Lithuania, Latvia, and Sri Lanka.

Ranking third on the chart is the highly anticipated behind-the-scenes documentary of the Stranger Things swan song, One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5. The Netflix documentary debuted with 8.7million views this week as the top ten title in 63 countries.

For its 31st week on the most popular movies chart, KPop Demon Hunters is positioned fourth with 7.3million views. The record-breaking animated movie remains a top ten title in 62 countries this week. Meanwhile, rounding out the top five movies is a dramatic retelling of a shocking true-crime story, Suitcase Killer: The Melanie McGuire Story.

Moving on, we have new players on the chessboard this week at number six, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. The animated classic has garnered 3.2million views this week as the top ten movie in 47 countries.

Up next, there’s yet another rom-com, a blast from the past, Me Before You, rising through the ranks at number seven. With 2.8million views amassed this week, as remains evident from the most popular movies chart on Netflix, the romantic comedy is a top-ten movie in 31 countries.

That said, the next two spots on the most popular movies chart on Netflix only belong to animation. First, we have Paw Patrol: The Movie on the eighth, followed by Madagascar on the ninth.

Coming to the last bit, there’s the John Cena-led action comedy, once again making waves on the Netflix charts, Freelance. And with that, it’s a wrap for the week.
