The 10 most popular movies on Netflix this week: January 2026
The onset of New Year’s arrived with a visible shake-up for the most popular movies chart on Netflix, and whether you zoom in or out, the shift remains clear as daylight.
Starting right at the North Star, we have a true-crime docu-film, Evil Influencer: The Jodi Hildebrandt Story, leading the pack of movies from December 29th, 2025, to January 4th, 2026.
The Skye Borgman-directed Netflix documentary launched itself at the top of the most popular movies chart after amassing a whopping 15million views in its first week of release. Additionally, the shocking true crime story is currently the number one movie in 19 countries, including the US, Canada, Austria, Belgium, and the UK, among others.
Succeeding the gripping page-turner on the most popular movies chart is a title we know all too well, the chart’s mainstay for 29 weeks, KPop Demon Hunters. As the top ten movie in 60 countries this week, Maggie Kang’s record-breaking animated fantasy musical has earned 9.4million views, giving its contemporary competitors a complete run for their money.
On the third, we have Rian Johnson’s latest whodunit starring Daniel Craig as the fan-favourite Southern sleuth, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. For its fourth week on the charts, the murder mystery has generated 8.1million views, becoming the top ten movie in 50 countries. Following closely at the fourth spot is Kate Winslet’s directorial debut, Goodbye June, with 6.7million views.
Meanwhile, rounding out the top five titles on the most popular movies chart is the Christmas special, Dr Seuss’s The Grinch, with 6.1million views in its 14th week.
Ranking sixth on the chart is a rom-com classic we all love and adore, Me Before You. It’s the number one movie in eight countries after earning 5.1million views this week. Moving on to the seventh, Madagascar is climbing the charts with 4.7million views.
That said, this is not the only animated flick besides KPop Demon Hunters, as is evident from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse rising through the ranks at number eight. While new entries have clearly stolen the show this week on the most popular movies chart globally, old favourites like Wrath of Man are still going strong at nine.
Lastly, wrapping up the cinematic trends for the week is Uptown Girls, and with that, we come to an end for the week.
