The 10 most popular movies on Netflix this week: August 2025
There is a clear scenic change in Netflix‘s this week’s most popular movies chart across the globe. But the peak remains as it is, untouched and unrestrained.
The top spot on the ten most popular movies chart again belongs to Netflix’s most-watched film of all time, KPop Demon Hunters. With 30.1million views amassed alone this week, the animated flick dominates globally as the number one movie in 35 countries, marking its 11thweek on the prestigious list.
Succeeding Maggie Kang’s chartbuster is Netflix’s recently released adaptation of Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club. The crime comedy is currently rising through the ranks, having garnered 24.7m views in the week dated August 25th to August 31st. Giving its predecessor a run for its money, The Thursday Murder Club is presently the number one movie in 31 countries!
Netflix users have also succumbed to the frenzy of docu-dramas yet again, thanks to Unknown Number: High School Catfish. The true crime documentary is ranked third on this week’s top ten most popular movies list with 8.6m views earned. It’s additionally a top ten movie in 32 countries. Since opening the floodgates for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the 2023 movie has stormed the global charts, positioned now at number four.
Despite its pigeonhole presence on Netflix US, the response is enough to crack international standards. As for the title that’s rounding out the top five this week, it’s the 2019 sports-comedy, The Art of Racing in the Rain, which is a top ten movie in 30 countries. The film follows the heartwarming tale of a bond between a man and his paw-some companion.
While the cinematic scenery has changed somewhat, the transition has no shortcomings in the world of animation. Besides the chart-topper, Paw Patrol: The Movie and Home both remain comfortable at sixth and seventh positions, respectively.
As fans make room for new players, the epic revenge thriller, The Northman, has managed to sneak in at eighth. The action thriller flick is succeeded by Welcome to Sudden Death, the film that’s been grabbing streaming attention for two weeks now. And as expected, the documentary intrigue is back on Netflix, as the all-revealing The Truth about Jussie Smollett trends at number ten on the most popular movies chart.
