The 10 most popular movies on Netflix this week: April 2026
The most popular movies chart on Netflix has officially met its match this week, thanks to the streamer’s high-profile variety of trend-setters.
Sitting on the throne of the international chart this week is Tommy Wirkola’s gripping new survival thriller, Thrash. In the week from April 6th to April 12th, the shark-infested page-turner debuted on Netflix with 37.7million views, becoming the number one movie in 82 countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, the Bahamas, Canada, Chile, and Colombia, among others.
Clutching silver on the most popular movies chart this week is the intense true-crime docu-film, The Truth and Tragedy of Moriah Wilson, revisiting the tragic murder of prodigy cyclist, Moriah Wilson, the highly publicised investigation, and trial that followed. The Netflix documentary amassed 7.3million views in its second week of release, showcasing its natural stronghold.
Succeeding that is the action-adventure comedy-horror, Anaconda, starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd, ranked third on the most popular movies chart. Having amassed 7million views this week, it is currently the number one movie in three countries – Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
Up next on the most popular movies chart is a blast from the past, the 1993 action thriller, Striking Distance, starring Bruce Willis and Sarah Jessica Parker. The cop thriller is ranked fourth globally after garnering 5.9million views, making it one of the top 10 movies in 70 countries this week.
Meanwhile, it turns out that Anaconda isn’t the only action-adventure comedy helmed by Jack Black that’s trending on Netflix’s global charts, as the fifth title trending on the most popular movies chart is the star-studded genre favourite Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
Moving on to the sixth entry, we have the Oscar-winning animated musical fantasy film, KPop Demon Hunters, still going strong in its 43rd week since release. And following Maggie Kang’s award-winning Netflix movie is yet another beloved animated gem, Despicable Me 4, making waves on the most popular movies chart globally with 4million views.
Ranked eighth on the international charts is the sci-fi spectacle viewers don’t seem to be getting enough of, War Machine. With 3.6million views earned this week, the numbers tie with those amassed by the animated comedy right next in the queue, Madagascar, positioned ninth on the chart.
With nine down, it leaves us with the last entry on the most popular movies chart: the 2022 survival action-horror movie, Beast, directed by Baltasar Kormákur. And with that, it’s officially a wrap for the week.
