The 10 most popular films on Netflix this week: May 2024

The first week of May has flown by, but Anyone But You and Rebel Moon still remain constants in the Netflix top ten list. This week, though, they’re beaten to the top spot by Jerry Seinfeld’s comedy newcomer, Unfrosted.

Starring comedy staples Melissa McCarthy, Max Greenfield and Amy Schumer, the film ventures into corporate competition through the creation of one of America’s most beloved breakfast snacks, the Pop-Tart. The film was released late last week on May 3rd and has immediately taken the title of the most popular film on the streaming service this week.

Expectedly, Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell’s enemies-to-lovers rom-com Anyone But You is still going strong, maintaining its second-place spot from last week’s list. The film was released in cinemas late last year, but hit Netflix towards the end of April.

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver also maintains its place in the list, though the sequel has dropped from first position to third. Its predecessor, Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire, has dropped out of the list entirely, despite taking up the number four spot last week.

The live-action kids film Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp, digestive documentary Hack Your Health: The Secrets of Your Gut, and 2017 animation Smurfs: The Lost Village are the only other films to appear on last week’s top 10 as well as this week’s.

Alongside the continued interest in Hack Your Health, another documentary finds its place on the top 10 list. Secrets of the Neanderthals just misses out on a top five spot, coming in at number six in this week’s most popular films. Narrated by Patrick Stewart, the documentary delves into our understanding of the Neanderthals.

The documentary is swiftly followed by some slightly older features, 2014’s The Judge starring Robert Downey Jr and the beloved tale of green ogre Shrek from 2001. The Academy Award-winning animation seems to have lost no audience appeal in the two decades since its first release.

Bill Skarsgård’s 2022 horror film Barbarian rounds out the collection in the number ten spot, the only film from the fear-inducing genre to make this week’s list.

Ranging from contemporary rom-coms to enduring animations and intriguing documentaries, this week’s top 10 list is a wide-ranging one. Find the full list of films below.
