The 10 most popular films on Netflix this week: March 2024

The ten most popular films on Netflix this week, from March 18th to March 24th, 2024, have got all the usual suspects, from new releases to old box office duds. But it is the number one film that has us a tad worried about the viewers on Netflix this week.

First up, we have Irish Wish. Janeen Damian’s mind-numbingly hackneyed rom-com starring Lindsay Lohan, Ed Speleers, and Alexander Vlahos has garnered 40million hours viewed in the last week alone, off the back of 25.5million individual views. This is on top of the 30.6million hours watched last week.

Continuing the train of fluff fiction, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s Damsel has dropped from its number one rank. Starring Millie Bobby Brown, Shohreh Aghdashloo (as the voice of a formidable dragon), Angela Bassett, and Robin Wright, this fantasy flick is really only a little bit better for flipping a few gendered tropes on their heads.

Action enthusiasts have been bingeing on Shooter, which has re-entered the top ten global list for the fifth no-consecutive week. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, this adrenaline-fueled thriller stars Mark Wahlberg as an ex-military sniper on his road to redemption.

Next, we have Ford v Ferrari, which depicts the epic showdown between two automotive titans. Directed by James Mangold, this film, based on a true story, follows the journey of Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles as they battle corporate interference, the laws of physics, and their personal demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford Motor Company. That is not the only biopic on the list. John Ridley’s Shirley is at the seventh spot, taking viewers back to the 1970s to tell Shirley Chisholm’s story, the first-ever Black congresswoman.

Animation lovers have been having fun with Miguel Puga’s The Casagrandes Movie. And let’s not forget the Super Mario Bros. Movie. Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, this one is on a sensational 14-week streak at the top ten charts this week.

While those two are the only animated adventures in the top this week, there are a couple of films that have got the superhero lovers busy. Hellboy had made a fiery entrance into the chart. While it is nestled at the sixth spot, the list is rounded out with Black Adam. Top Gun: Maverick is at the ninth spot, offering high-octane thrills and jaw-dropping action sequences.

So, what have you been bingeing?
