The 10 most popular films on Netflix this week: June 2023

In its fifth week, Jennifer Lopez’s The Mother may have slipped to the fourth spot on Netflix’s global top ten list, but it is still going strong. The Boss Baby is also continuing its winning streak for the seventh week running. The week of June 5th to June 11th sees a bunch of old and new entertaining films keeping these two company.

Holding the top spot for this week is Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners. This gripping thriller, starring Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Maria Bello, and Paul Dano, has raked in over 13.8 million hours viewed. Another suspense, Antoine Fuqua’s action drama Shooter, featuring Mark Wahlberg as a skilled sniper caught in a conspiracy, is in the second spot with 12.8m hours viewed.

The mindless thriller Abduction claimed the third spot in its debut week, with 9.6 million hours viewed. Directed by John Singleton, this adrenaline-fueled thriller stars Taylor Lautner as a young man who discovers his true identity while on the run. The cast also includes Alfred Molina, Sigourney Weaver, and Lily Collins as well.

Dirty Grandpa may have left the top ten, but that just means two other raunchy comedies have taken up space because people seem to love unwinding with them. Firstly we have, We’re the Millers, starring Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Emma Roberts, and Will Poulter.  Directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, this R-rated comedy follows the adventures of a makeshift ‘family’ trying to smuggle drugs across the Mexican border.

In the ninth spot, is the sinfully vacuous Grown Ups 2. Directed by Dennis Dugan, this star-studded comedy sequel reunites Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, and David Spade as childhood friends navigating adulthood. The cast also includes Salma Hayek, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello, and Rob Schneider.

Rounding up the top ten is Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly’s animated film The Angry Birds Movie, John Wells’ drama The Company Men, and Ross Katz’s romance dud, based on a Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name, The Choice.
