The 10 most popular films on Netflix this week: February 2024

In the ever-changing landscape of Netflix, it’s always fascinating to peek into the streaming giant’s weekly chart-toppers. The week between February 19th and 25th has an assortment of new releases and old favourites dominating the top ten films chart on Netflix globally.

Starting off the list is Mea Culpa, the Tyler Perry steamy legal thriller that has swiftly captured the attention of 32 million viewers in its first week alone. Starring Kelly Rowland and Trevante Rhodes, the film follows a criminal defence attorney tangled in a web of seduction and danger as she takes on the case of an artist accused of murdering his girlfriend.

Following closely behind is Players, the mindlessly tiresome rom-com that has scored big with audiences, garnering 13million views last week. Directed by Trish Sie, the film follows Mack (Gina Rodriguez) and her group of friends who concoct ridiculous schemes, dubbed “plays,” to hook up indiscriminately in New York City.

For those with a penchant for history and science, Einstein and the Bomb has a glimpse into one of the greatest minds of the 20th century. With 9.2million views, this documentary sheds light on Albert Einstein’s involvement in the development of nuclear weapons and has become a companion piece to Oppenheimer.

The kids are okay, too, as animated films like Despicable Me 3, Minions, and Orion and the Dark have been dominating the top ten chart for weeks. The latest entry to the list of animation gems is the 2023 Kirk DeMicco film Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken.

On the other end of the spectrum, there is the true crime documentary Lover, Stalker, Killer going strong after three weeks. The holiday-themed slasher horror Thanksgiving has entered the game with 7.5million hours viewed and 4.2million individual views.

And rounding out the top 10 is Crossroads, the teen road comedy by Tamra Davis streaming on OTT for the first time. Set in Georgia, the film stars Britney Spears, Zoe Saldana, Taryn Manning, Kim Cattrall, and Dan Aykroyd.
