The 10 most popular films on Netflix this week: December 2023

As we step into the third week of December 2023, let’s take a peek into the cinematic preferences of Netflix viewers with the ten most popular films of the week.

Topping the charts at number one once more is Sam Esmail’s Leave the World Behind, an apocalypse thriller that has amassed a staggering 106.2million hours viewed.

Following is Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, making its debut at number two. In just one week, this animated adventure has captured the attention of audiences, clocking in at 20.3 million hours viewed with its humour and heart.

At the third spot is another animated film, Leo. Directed by Robert Marianetti, Robert Smigel and David Wachtenheim, the film features the voices of Adam Sandler and Bill Burr as they play fifth-grade class pets Leo, a tuatara and Squirtle, a turtle.

The inane holiday-themed comedy starring Jennifer Garner and Ed Helms, Family Switch, takes the fourth position with 16.6m hours viewed.

Kristen Stewart’s 2020 sci-fi action horror Underwater has been seeing a resurgence on the streaming platform. The film is currently at the sixth spot. It is followed by M. Night Shyamalan’s 2021 thriller Old

The Shyamalan film has garnered 10m hours of viewing and tells the bizarre story of a couple on the verge of divorce who find their way on a beach vacation where time flows by rapidly. Old is currently in the seventh spot.

The top ten list has more cheery films as well. There is the recently released blockbuster animated film The Super Mario Bros. Movie at the fifth spot. The holiday-themed films Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch and Holiday in the Vineyards sit snugly at the ninth and tenth spots, rounding up the top ten for last week.
