The 10 most popular films on Netflix this week: April 2024

The top ten list of films on Netflix for the week of April 15th to 21st, 2024, is out. It is littered with new releases and old hits, from Rebel Moon to the smash hit The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which is on a tremendous 15-week streak in the top ten charts.

Leading the pack is Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver, the sequel to Zack Snyder’s space opera Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire, which is also on the list a few notches below. Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, and Ed Skrein headline an ensemble cast fighting an interstellar struggle against the imperialistic forces threatening the farming colony on the moon of Veldt.

In contrast, the whimsical charm of Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp has been reigning the roost for two weeks straight. This animated one is for all ages. But that is not the only animated film storming at the top ten. Hotel Transylvania 2 has brought back Dracula and Maeve’s story to the fore once more.

And then there is The Super Mario Bros. Movie, an adaptation of the classic game. With its colourful world and whimsical adventures, the film has been dominating the animated section on Netflix for 15 weeks. It seems to have dethroned the Boss Baby from its reign.

Meanwhile, What Jennifer Did is a true crime story that has people curious. The documentary follows the story of the seemingly timid Jennifer Pan, who ended up orchestrating her parents’ murders at their home and getting caught only because her father survived the ordeal.

Venturing into the realm of espionage, Luc Besson’s Anna follows the journey of a Russian beauty entangled in a world of deceit and intrigue. That is not the only action flick on the list. The Bricklayer is the unintentionally funny action flick starring Aaron Eckhart, a retired CIA operative who has taken to bricklaying.

M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass is a psychological thriller unravelling the complexities of heroism and villainy. In a departure from the familiar, Damsel, starring Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, puts a feminist spin on the damsel in distress in need of rescue genre.

From terrible but epic space operas to adventurous coming-of-age stories, each film on this week’s top ten films chart has something to offer to a different subsection of Netflix’s audience pool. So, what have you been bingeing this week?
