Thandiwe Newton is joining the 'Wednesday' cast

Wednesday was a smash from the moment it landed on Netflix. It’s no surprise that a new series is in the works, and the cast contributing to it is only getting bigger and bigger. The latest addition confirmed is none other than Line of Duty star Thandiwe Newton.

While the actor has been confirmed to have a feature role in the show, there is currently little to no information about who she will be playing and what her character’s role entails. Netflix is refusing to provide any comment, and it’s likely that fans won’t know anything different until closer to the series’ release date.

Newton is an excellent addition to the cast as a star of both stage and screen. She has won an Emmy for her portrayal of Maeve in Westworld and has also been on Line of Duty, Big Mouth and Human Resources. She has won a BAFTA Film Award for her performance in Crash and has also appeared in the movies Mission: Impossible 2, Solo: A Star Wars Story and Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget.

Alongside Newton, Steve Buscemi has also been announced as starring in the next series of Wednesday. Again, details of his role are yet to be confirmed, and we likely won’t know anything further until closer to the release date.

We can expect a few changes to occur in the second series, firstly, because the production base is being moved from Romania to Ireland. Secondly, the tone of the series will change as Jenna Ortega promises that the teen romance aspect of the show will be cut down in the second run.

“We’re ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great,” she said when talking about the new series, “We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more.”

She continued, “Because it is so light-hearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously.”

More information about the new series of Wednesday will follow; however, at the time of writing, details about an expected trailer or prospective release date are yet to be confirmed.
