Ted Danson spills tea in the first three minutes of ‘A Man on the Inside’ season two

Netflix loves a premature tease whenever something exciting is on its way, and who are we to complain? So, just in time for Ted Danson’s return as Charles Nieuwendyk in A Man on the Inside season two, Netflix unveiled the first three minutes, which is nothing short of a mic drop.

When we first met Charles in A Man on the Inside’s debut season, he was a grieving widower struggling with a lack of purpose following the death of his beloved wife. But thanks to his daughter’s push and the newspaper ad, he ended up following a calling as a private investigator.

Charles managed to crack the case by finding the jewellery thief at the Pacific View Retirement Community in the first season. And it only makes sense that he wants something juicier for the one upcoming, given he has found his groove. While the second season trailer already gave viewers a sneak peek into what’s to come, the recently released first three minutes saw Danson, AKA Charles, handing out some tea or vodka martini, to be precise.

The scene begins at a mellow lounge where a couple sits in one corner of the bar, flirting with one another. As they decide to take things to the next level, the man leaves to find whether a room is available for two, and Charles enters, offering a drink to the woman. While the sudden offer makes her sceptical, she believes Charles is probably a bit too old for her.

Little does she know that Charles’s gesture has nothing to do with courtship, and the drink is nothing but an antidote to the bomb he’s about to drop. When the man, named Steve, returns and she fills him in on what’s been going on, including the divulgence of Charles’s opinion about him, he mockingly suggests he mind his own business, unaware that this, indeed, is his business.

Charles reveals that Steve’s wife, Donna, had hired him to find out whether her husband was having an extramarital affair, and considering the woman is not Donna, the suspicion checks out. Before Steve can get his lies together, Charles also informs the lady that the dinner he had cancelled the previous week was not because he was called into surgery.

In fact, he is no surgeon. Steve actually had to attend his kid’s dance recital. While that leaves Steve with no option but a counteroffer, he promises to pay Charles double what Donna is, while also guaranteeing free oil changes for life in exchange for his silence. However, this private investigator believes in a “strict code of conduct,” which is to pursue the truth, not rake in dollar bills.

In all honesty, if Charles says it, we believe it. But then, his punch-fest of a monologue is cut short as he trips due to his leg falling asleep. However, that doesn’t rob us of his mic-drop moment. As he leaves, wishing the two a good night, Charles reminds the woman of the reason why he bought her the vodka martini, and there it goes, spilt right on Steve’s face.

Safe to say, it’s quite a buzzing entry to what awaits in A Man on the Inside season two. And now that we’re armed with a glimpse, we hope everyone’s seated for November 20th.
