The teaser trailer for Netflix’s Japanese comedy mystery film Once Upon a Crime has now been released. It will put a twist on classic fantasy stories by giving them a criminal background.
The Netflix synopsis for the film reads, “While at the royal ball with Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood finds herself in the middle of a mystery. Can she solve the case before midnight strikes?”
The cast for Once Upon a Crime includes Kanna Hashimoto, Yuko Araki, Takanori Iwata, Natsuna, Yumi Wakatsuki, Mirei Kiritani, Tsuyoshi Muro, Masaki Kaji, Tomoharu Hasegawa, Atsuhiro Inukai, Mizuki Yamamoto, Midoriko Kimura, Miki Maya and Jiro Sato.
The film has been directed by Fukada Yuichi and is an adaptation of the manga Little Red Riding Hood Meets a Corpse on Her Journey by author Aoyagi Aito. Netflix released a further statement on the story behind Once Upon a Crime just under two years ago.
They wrote, “Akazukin, Tabi no Tochu de Shitai to Deau (Futabasha) is a classic mystery book by Aito Aoyagi set in the world of fables and fairy tales that everyone knows.”
The statement continued, “The novel is a bold story that follows Little Red Riding Hood as she hunts criminals who commit crimes in famous fairy tales such as Cinderella and Hänsel and Gretel, and it gained popularity for its sophisticated mystery-solving turns and twists. Now adapted into film by director Yuichi Fukuda, the creator of hit comedies!”
