‘Stranger Things’: The only Netflix series to have four seasons in the top ten chart

Before Netflix could drop the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, the hype already broke a viewership record on its own.

Just ahead of the release, the rewatch parties and new audience discovery paid off in gold as all four seasons of the hit Netflix series charted simultaneously in the top ten weekly chart.

As it turns out, this is the first time in the streamer’s history that a Netflix series has had all four seasons rising through the ranks at once. In the week of November 17th to November 23rd, the first season of Stranger Things was ranked third on the most popular English-language series chart with 4.1million views.

The fourth season followed in its footsteps, ranking number five with 3.3million views. Meanwhile, the second instalment climbed to the seventh spot and the third to the ninth, amassing 3.1million views in both cases.

While the fifth season is anticipated to make its own benchmark when it enters the top ten titles next week, before it can, the previous instalments are busy reclaiming their own momentum. This, in turn, benefits the recently released first volume, solidifying the cultural impact of Stranger Things as a whole.

The fourth season, released on Netflix three years ago in 2022, currently stands tall as the third most popular English-language series of all time on the platform with 140.7million views in the first 91 days of streaming. Although the third season, released in 2019, held on pretty well at the tenth position, Wednesday’s second season managed to boot it out of the list earlier this year.

Indeed, Stranger Things on Netflix isn’t a recent phenomenon, but this is far from the only first that is left in its cards. With the finale going to theatres, which is a first for a Netflix series, the fifth season has also set its sights on turning a profit at the box office. Following the premiere of the first volume on November 26th, the second volume is scheduled to drop on Netflix this Christmas. The finale will release on streaming and in theatres side by side on New Year’s Eve.

Coming back to the show’s recent week’s chart performance, the only shows that surpassed Stranger Things’ debut season are The Beast in Me with 14.1million views and the first season of Absentia with 8.2million views.

The second season of Absentia precedes the fourth season of the Milly Bobby Brown-led series. Lastly, the only ones before the second and the third season of Stranger Things are Raw 2025 and Gabby’s Dollhouse, respectively.
