‘Stranger Things’ duo the Duffer brothers to create new horror for Netflix

Things have yet to cool down on the highly anticipated season five of Stranger Things, but Netflix has just confirmed the next project to come from the Duffer brothers’ Upside Down Pictures production.

Netflix has announced plans for the coveted duo to executive produce Haley Z Boston’s original psychological horror series Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen, alongside Hilary Leavitt, as part of the Upside Down deal with the streaming giant.

While Netflix has yet to reveal any further details, the series’ title and accompanying logline suggest an immersive and tense experience from two of the biggest names in the thriller realm. The show is described as “an atmospheric horror series set at a wedding, following a bride and groom in the week leading up to their ill-fated nuptials.”

It’s unclear what the “ill-fated” scenario might be, but considering Boston previously contributed to the thriller series Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet Of Curiosities and Netflix’s Brand New Cherry Flavour, there’s no doubt this will be a must-watch.

“We were knocked flat when we first read Haley’s script,” the Duffer brothers said in a joint Netflix statement. “She is a major new talent with a singular voice — her writing is twisted, terrifying, funny, and just … very Haley. We feel so lucky to be producing her first show, and we can’t wait to share her vision with the rest of the world.”

Netflix recently revealed the first look details of the fifth season of Stranger Things, with a behind-the-scenes video showing the Hawkins family and several of the sets being used. It also included Millie Bobby Brown admitting she “feels very weird” to have grown up alongside the cast, with co-star Noah Schnapp noting, “It’s just so exciting, I think this is going to be the best season yet.”

Maya Hawke recently stated in an interview with Podcrushed that the new episodes are longer than normal and that they will feel more like “eight movies”. “Our showrunners, Matt and Ross [Duffer], take a lot of responsibility,” she said.

She continued: “They have an amazing team of writers, but they’re very involved. They write a lot, and they are very intense and serious about the quality of the continued writing, and so it takes a long time to write each season and a long time to shoot them.”
