‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ season one will arrive on Netflix on Christmas Day

The animated children’s television show Star Trek: Prodigy will be coming to Netflix soon after it was cancelled by Paramount+. The first season will now be released on the streaming service on Christmas Day in 2023.

Star Trek: Prodigy has also recently been on the receiving end of a nomination for an Emmy award, marking a successful week for the science fiction kids show, based on the iconic TV series of the 1960s.

The first season of the programme details a group of alien teens who find adventure when they discover an abandoned Starfleet ship.

Season two of the show has also been picked up by Netflix and is likely to arrive at some point in 2024. The series is set to contain 20 episodes, but there is no further news for an exact release date.

Discussing how Prodigy was saved, creators Kevin and Dan Hageman said in a joint statement, “Thank you to our incredible ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ fans, who championed not just a show but a community that’s always been connected by the belief that we build a better future together.”

They added, “We set out to inspire you but you inspired us. The team is still hard at work on the second season, and we can’t wait to share it with the amazing fans around the world.”
