Star-studded ‘Bridgerton’ gala cancelled last-minute due to celebrity drop outs
A star-studded Bridgerton-themed gala set to take place over an entire weekend has been cancelled at the last-minute due to Netflix actors Chris Fulton and Adjoa Andoh dropping out.
The event was set to take place at the grand Oakley Hall in Basingstoke on February 27th and was meant to go on until March 1st.
Approximately 400 guests were set to attend. All of the guests were told that they had the opportunity to enjoy activities such as dancing lessons, an evening ball, afternoon tea, and Q&A sessions.
Additionally, varied ticket packages, many of which cost hundreds of pounds, meant that fans of the Netflix series had paid to take part in meet-and-greets with some of the actors.
However, as per the Basingstoke Gazette, organisers were forced to cancel the event only three days before it kicked off due to celebrity drop-outs.
It was originally reported that Richard Armitage had pulled out of the event; he refuted that claim, sharing the article to X and writing, “The information in the article is incorrect. I hadn’t pulled out and was due to attend as planned.” The report had suggested that Armitage was forced to drop out due to filming abroad.
An email to ticket-holders announced the cancellation of the event, writing, “It is with genuine sadness that I’m writing to let you know that we have had to make the very difficult decision to cancel The Diamond Gala.”
“After careful consideration, we felt we could not deliver the special event we had promised you, and therefore believe it is best not to proceed,” it added.
Allegedly, Fulton dropped out due to a PR event, and Andoh dropped out as a result of personal issues.
According to the official website, Robert James-Collier, Martins Imhangbe, Max Brown and Bridgerton author Julia Quinn were all due to appear at the now-cancelled event. Now, all tickets have been refunded, and travel expenses have been reimbursed.
The fourth series of the widely adored show has just aired on Netflix; the first four episodes aired on January 29th, while the second half aired on February 26th. The very first season debuted back in December 2020.
