'Squid Game' season 2 will arrive in 2024, sooner than expected

The highly anticipated second season of Squid Game will arrive sooner than expected, set to hit Netflix later this year.

The first season of the South Korean survival show aired in 2021, quickly taking the title for Netflix’s most-watched series ever and winning six Emmys. Since then, the show has expanded to include Squid Game: The Challenge, a reality show with a cash prize of $4.56 million.

Since then, fans have longed for a second instalment of the original drama series, which delivered class criticism through the lens of children’s games.

Now, Netflix have announced their plans to air the second season of Squid Game this year. In a letter to shareholders, they began, “Looking ahead, despite last year’s strikes pushing back the launch of some  titles, we have a big, bold slate for 2024.”

They went on to announce a number of “hit returning dramas,” including a second season of Squid Game. Other announcements included a third season of regency romance Bridgerton and a sixth season of reality show Love Is Blind

Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has suggested that characters such as Gi-hun and the Front Man will return for the second instalment. A specific release date for the new season is yet to be announced.
