Sofia Vergara and Netflix sued by family of Griselda Blanco

Actor Sofia Vergara will be taken to court by the family of the infamous drug lord Griselda Blanco, whom Vergara is portraying in the upcoming Netflix mini-series Griselda.

Blanco, known as the ‘Cocaine Godmother’, was at the head of one of the most lucrative cartels running cocaine through Miami, Florida.

Now, Blanco’s adult children have filed a lawsuit against Vergara and Netflix, claiming that they have used the family’s image and likeness without any authorisation.

The Blancos are aiming to get the release of Griselda stopped. Son Michael has said that Netflix has used details for a string of interviews about his personal life he gave previously without asking him for permission or giving him compensation.

The lawsuit argues that Netflix has, therefore, appropriated the Blancos’ story. The series was scheduled for release on January 25th, with Vergara also serving as an executive producer.

“Griselda was such a complex person, and there are so many nuances to explore in terms of who she was as a drug lord as, of course, as a woman, as a mother,” Vergara recently told ETOnline. “I wanted to get inside her head and really understand her mentality.”
