‘Sisu: Road to Revenge’: The action thriller climbing the Netflix US charts
It may be spring, climate-wise, but the weather is quite stormy on Netflix, thanks to the action fever sparked by critically acclaimed movies like Sisu: Road to Revenge.
In the week dated March 16th to March 22nd, the most popular movies chart on Netflix US has nearly 50% of the trending titles from the action genre, marked by period, historical, or adventurous twists, including Sisu: Road to Revenge. The action-adventure movie is currently ranked eighth, but in the weeks to come, it could very well shoot up the ranks.
Directed by Jalmari Helander, Sisu: Road to Revenge is the sequel to Sisu, in which Jorma Tommila reprises his role as legendary Finnish commando Aatami Korpi in 1946 on his journey to dismantle his family home in Soviet-occupied Karelia, where they were murdered, to rebuild it in their honour in Finland.
Tasked by the Soviet authorities to finish Korpi, Igor Draganov, a ruthless Red Army officer responsible for the murder of Aatami’s family, is pulled out of prison. So, Aatami must outwit Draganov and exact revenge on him, despite being initially unaware of the monster Draganov truly is.
Sisu: Road to Revenge’s appearance on Netflix’s regional weekly charts is not exactly surprising, considering it hit the platform on March 21st, boosting the title’s visibility as is with most new additions on the streamer. Although we’ve seen several such streaming booms in the digital era, this could be a classic sleeper hit.
Despite rave reviews, Sisu: Road to Revenge didn’t exactly leave a mark at the box office when it released in November 2025, grossing only $9.8milllion against a $12.2million budget. Yet, on the contrary, the action-adventure flick enjoys a promising 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. And now that it is on streaming, the love for the gritty action drama is overflowing.
Critics have hailed it as one of the best modern action sequels, with no shortcomings in star appeal, featuring Tommila, Stephen Lang, and Richard Brake, among others.
Sisu: Road to Revenge already had an existing reputation for its creatively gory action sequences, but its streaming exposure on Netflix is solidifying and doubling down on the craze, making it one of the most talked-about entries of the month.
Another reason behind Sisu: Road to Revenge’s unflinching streaming popularity could be continued franchise momentum. Since the first movie was a cult favourite on streaming, viewers who missed the sequel’s limited theatrical run are finally catching up on it on Netflix. So, if you haven’t yet, start already!
