Shania Twain discusses working with Sabrina Carpenter on Netflix festive special

After the Netflix release of A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter, Shania Twain has reflected on working with the singer and that she “spent the entire shoot laughing”.

The Netflix special began streaming on December 6th, and it featured Carpenter singing various festive songs with various special guests. Carpenter sang some of her original Christmas songs, such as ‘Nonsense Christmas‘, ‘White Christmas’, and ‘Cindy Lou Who‘, as well as classic songs like ‘Last Christmas’ and ‘Santa Baby‘.

Carpenter was joined by many other stars for the special, such as Chappell Roan, Tyla, Shania Twain, Kali Uchis, Nico Hiragua, Quinta Brunson, Cara Delevingne, Kyle Mooney, Megan Stalter, Sean Astin, Owen Thiele and Jillian Bell.

Since the release of the show, Twain has praised Carpenter on social media, saying, “What do you say when Sabrina Carpenter calls you up and asks if you want to sing a Christmas song together? Obviously, you say ‘Sure, I would love to sing with you Sabrina! When I tell you I had the most fun shooting A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina I’m not exaggerating, she is so funny, I basically spent the entire shoot laughing! You can watch our cute duet together tonight.”

Carpenter responded to the post saying, “I adore you Shania!!!!!” The pair united to sing ‘Santa Baby’ for the special, but Carpenter had previously collaborated sung ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’ during the Short ‘n’ Sweet tour, which is one of Twain’s hit songs.

When discussing the release of the special, Carpenter said, “The holidays have always been so special to me. I am excited to bring my take to a classic holiday variety show – infusing my love of music and comedy to make something that is uniquely me.”

In the special, there are multiple sketches and bits, with Carpenter making espresso martinis in reference to her hit song from this summer (but instead mixing it with Kahlua) and baking a cake. She sings ‘Last Christmas’ with Chappell Roan, ‘I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus’ with Kali Uchis, and ‘This Christmas’ with Tyla. Sean Astin also makes an appearance in the special as Santa Claus himself, with the actor humming the tune to ‘Espresso’ in the background.

Carpenter has had a hugely successful year after the release of her album, which saw her being nominated at the Grammy’s for ‘Best New Artist’. The singer also supported Taylor Swift on tour this year, which further expanded her fan base.
